About

Deer & Deer Hunting kickstarted the whitetail industry in 1973 with the incorporation of the Stump Sitters Whitetail Study Group. It was founded by Jack Brauer and Al Hofacker, two ultra-serious whitetail hunters from the Upper Midwest. The magazine built its reputation on editorial quality and integrity. When the first copies of Deer & Deer Hunting Magazine came off the press in 1977, it marked America’s first whitetail-specific publication. The magazine’s founders built the brand’s niche by providing whitetail enthusiasts with cutting-edge insights on deer research, behavior, biology, hunting tactics and hunting product development. The magazine is published 11 times per year. Other titles in the portfolio include Turkey & Turkey HuntingThe TrapperIce Fishing and Living Ready.

Today, D&DH is part of Media 360 LLC of Waupaca, Wisconsin. Deer & Deer Hunting still offers comprehensive and practical information about white-tailed deer and deer hunting techniques — the type of editorial no one else has been able to imitate in print, digital, online video or broadcast television. “Deer & Deer Hunting TV,” now in its 16th season, anchors the Saturday Night Deer Camp programming block on Pursuit Channel.

The company is led by whitetail fanatics Brad Rucks, Daniel Schmidt and Steve Bartylla. Combined, the three men have more than 75 years of experience with Deer & Deer Hunting and the outdoors industry. Rucks (sales) and Schmidt (editor) have been staff members for more than 25 years each; Bartylla has been a top content contributor for print, TV and online video, including the top-rated “Grow ’em Big” and “Hunt ’em Big” online shows.
