Fifty plus years ago at age six, “HR” Ross shot his first bow, made by a Seminole Indian in Southwest Florida. He has been addicted to bow hunting (especially Whitetail Deer Hunting Florida) and the great outdoors ever since, carrying stick and string from Africa to Alaska and back. Also, growing up on the Florida gulf coast line, he built his first primitive raft at age eight, and then went on to obtain his US Coast Guard Merchant Mariner credentials, and in addition to being a Florida hunting guide, has since cruised and fished the waters of Florida and the Bahamas for over 35 years.
After graduating from Rollins College in 1976, HR went to work in the computer industry, but always preferred the hunting in Florida woods and water, over hunting for bits and bytes. In 1992, HR was Founder and C.E.O. of PowerCerv Technologies, taking the software products and services company public on NASDAQ in 1996. HR was awarded the Entrepreneur of the Year Award by USA Today in 1996, and while most other software gurus were buying fast planes and fast cars, HR promptly purchased a faster bow, and the Florida hunting ranch land that RHR (one of the best hnting lodges in Florida) sits on today!
Throughout the 1980’s and 1990’s, HR was fortunate to have visited dozens of outfitters around the globe, learning the good, the bad, and the ugly of what separated a great Florida deer hunting outfitter from a “nightmare” adventure. He saw plenty of both! Those experiences, as a BUYER of Florida hunting outfitting services, defined the Value Proposition of being a SELLER of Florida hunting outfitter services at Ross Hammock Ranch today, which today is recognized as one of the best hunting ranches in Florida. So, in the late 1990’s, on the way home from an Alabama rut hunt, the decision to build and open Ross Hammock Ranch (licensed Florida hunting outfitter) was given birth. HR has four children, who along with his beautiful wife Terra (whom some say is a better shot with a bow, but all say is a better angler) make their Florida hunting ranch a Ross family operation.
