In 1889, the enlargement and protection of Yellowstone National Park was the Boone and Crockett Club’s first project. Boone and Crockett Club members William Hallet Phillips, Secretary of the Interior Lucius Q.C. Lamar, Jon W. Noble, and Arnold Hague of the U.S. Geological Survey secured congressional enactment of the Timberland Reserve Bill, which added 1 million acres to Yellowstone and established the national forest system.
